Most of you are used to running analytic reports and having them come back to you in Excel spreadsheets. While we stand by this approach for analytic reports because we feel it put the data in your hands it does have its limitations. Specifically, you cannot readily display a spreadsheet with multiple tabs as a dashboard within the system. With recent releases of CIP we now have a new reporting engine that can both create spreadsheets as usual, but also display within the application for creating dashboards.

Create Your Own Custom Help Pages

If you know us then you know that no two customer deployments of CIP Reporting are the same. Each one is tailored to the exact use case of our customers which also includes a dramatic amount of control over the report writing process. This always brings up an interesting challenge; creating user facing documentation within the system. Because your system is so unique, we cannot provide “one size fits all” help documentation and beyond that each users role is different and may require different documentation. Better Than Duct Tape

When evaluating CIP Reporting the conversation and questions inevitably turn to details around what’s not inherently in the application, but rather what the application can be configured for to improve on processes and data collection in other aspects of their respective business. Because let’s face it, in today’s digital world, at least where data is concerned, you’re truly only limited by your imagination. Somehow, someway, there’s a software developer out there who can pull together a multitude of platforms to work in synchronicity, much to the delight of the customer. At least until that customer wants to connect yet another software platform to the melee.
The Beats Lab – Syndicating Reports via RSS Using the CIP API

RSS is a very simple technology for publishing information which many devices and software applications support. RSS stands for “Really Simple Syndication” and is a simple XML format for presenting information. The uses for RSS “feeds” are really limitless and in my personal opinion is one of the most under utilized technologies in the wild. It is nothing complex, but you really can do a lot of neat things with it easily. CIP Reporting can generate RSS feeds using the API which when used correctly can do a variety of crafty things such as populate a folder in Outlook, Send alerts to your phone, publish reports to a web page, or even something crazy like post tweets to Twitter (No I am not kidding).

Introducing The Beats Lab
I have to admit – every week is a pretty good week working here but this week was extra special because I was lucky enough to travel to a customer site who I consider a special customer. We got to work on some really cool new technology which we will probably discuss in an up and coming “Beats Lab” article. I straight up stole the term “Beats Lab” from them as that is what they call our office. I take it as a huge compliment and I love the name. My relationship with this customer is always focused on doing new and exciting things with our core technology so I am dedicating all our technical articles going forward to the CIP Reporting “Beats Lab”. This article is for them to offer up some wisdom for architecting their employee licensing application kiosks in their commission lobby with CIP Reporting
